Biden supports Turkey’s demand for F-16s

White House Spokesperson Karine Jean-Pierre stated that they had been discussing the sale of F-16s to Turkey for several months and that US President Joe Biden supported this request.

Jean-Pierre at his daily press conference, today a group Democratic Congress member’s BidenPresident of Recep Tayyip Erdogan with MadridAfter his meeting in F-16 sale evaluated his criticism of his positive statements on the subject.

Pointing out that the discussions on the F-16 have been on the agenda for a while, Jean-Pierre said, “We are very clear about the F-16. We have been talking about it for a few months. Biden really supports this demand. Other than that, there is nothing new.” said.


Biden, who met with President Erdogan at the NATO Leaders’ Summit in Madrid, said at the press conference on 30 June that they needed to sell F-16 warplanes to Turkey and that they could get approval from the US Congress for this.

Biden noted the following at the meeting:

“What I said to (President Erdogan) is the same as what I said to him in December. We should sell (to Turkey) F-16 planes and also modernize the planes. It is not in our interest not to do this. I told them that I haven’t changed my stance since December. “I just said we have to sell. What I need is Congressional approval to be able to do that. I think we’re going to get that approval.”

Today, a group of Senators in the US House of Representatives criticized this support in a letter they sent to Biden.
