BIDEN’S F-16 EXPLANATIONS
Biden, who met with President Erdogan at the NATO Leaders’ Summit in Madrid, said at the press conference on 30 June that they needed to sell F-16 warplanes to Turkey and that they could get approval from the US Congress for this.
Biden noted the following at the meeting:
“What I said to (President Erdogan) is the same as what I said to him in December. We should sell (to Turkey) F-16 planes and also modernize the planes. It is not in our interest not to do this. I told them that I haven’t changed my stance since December. “I just said we have to sell. What I need is Congressional approval to be able to do that. I think we’re going to get that approval.”
Today, a group of Senators in the US House of Representatives criticized this support in a letter they sent to Biden.
