During the operations carried out on different dates in five districts of Istanbul, 10 thousand 220 coins and 2 thousand 47 historical artifacts belonging to the Hellenistic, Roman and Ottoman periods were seized. Seven suspects were detained in the operations.

According to the statement made by the Istanbul Police Department; The teams of the Anti-Smuggling Crimes Branch conducted an operation against historical artifact smugglers in Sancaktepe, Beyoğlu, Bayrampaşa, Pendik and Esenler between 5-16 May. While 7 suspects were caught in the operations, 10 thousand 220 coins belonging to the Hellenistic, Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman periods were seized. On some of the coins, pictures of the emperors, religious figures belonging to the periods they were minted and Hz. It is stated that there is a depiction of Jesus.

12 thousand 267 artifacts were seized

During the searches, 2 thousand 47 historical objects belonging to the same periods as the coins were seized. Among the historical objects belonging to the Seljuk period, there are wedges and knives, spearheads, measuring materials, terracotta ornaments, metal beads, rattles, flower and geometric shaped belt buckle pieces, metal rings known to symbolize ornaments and splendor in various forms, and columns belonging to the Byzantine period. parts were found. It has been reported that a total of 12,267 artifacts seized will be sent to the relevant museum directorates for examination.

Action was taken against 7 suspects who were detained during the operations for the crime of violating the Law No. 2863 on the Protection of Cultural and Natural Heritage. A total of 12,267 historical artifacts seized during the operations were exhibited at the Istanbul Provincial Security Directorate.
