İlber Ortaylı recently told A Haber about asylum seekers, “Turkey needs refugees. We are getting old.” He made comments, but in the statement he made at the beginning of May, he said the opposite and drew a reaction.
Ortaylı made a statement to Halk TV in early May: “What do certain nations and people have to do with this place? Why should I be a citizen? Turkey is not a country of immigration. Turkey is not the USA or Uruguay. It was not established that way.” He said, and the video, combined with the statements he made to A Haber, drew a great reaction on social media.
While the statements made by academician İlber Ortaylı drew reaction, he has not yet made a statement about this event.
