Among the victims of the war .. “bullet” kills a coach in the most famous clubs in Ukraine

Serhii Balkin, CEO of Shakhtar Donetsk, confirmed the sad news Thursday evening, that one of the coaches in the team had died, succumbed to shrapnel wounds during the intense fighting.

“The coach of the club’s children’s team was killed,” Balkin said. “He was hit by shrapnel from a Russian bullet.”

The news comes two days after FIFPro announced the first football losses in the military conflict, with two Ukrainian players dying in defense of their country.

The International Federation of Professional Footballers (FIFP) confirmed that Vitaly Sapelo, aged 21, and Dmytro Martinenko, 25, lost their lives in combat and became the first football victims of the war.

“Our condolences to the families, friends and colleagues of young Ukrainian footballers Vitaly Sapelo and Dmytro Martinenko, the first reported football loss of this war. I hope both of them rest in peace,” FIFPro said in a statement.

It is noteworthy that Shakhtar has been playing its matches in Kyiv, since the security situation in eastern Ukraine worsened years ago.
