Germany has won the most sliding medals at the Beijing Olympics

  • Germany took 16 medals in total and the rest of the world combined 14 medals in the slide
  • Strong winds caused snow attacks across the frozen tracks
  • Eve Muirhead led Britain to Olympic gold in women’s curling

The Norwegian figure skater won, Therese Juhaugin the women’s 30 km race, which is her third gold medal in Beijing Olympics Winter.

Johaug took the lead early in the race and finished in 1 hour 24 minutes 54 seconds, in freezing temperatures and strong winds.
Johaug also won the classic and 10km ski race.

American Jesse Diggins maintained a steady pace behind the Norwegian as wind battered the skaters, crossing the finish line 1 minute 43.3 seconds behind Gohhog to win the silver medal. She is the first American woman to win an individual medal in cross country when she took the bronze in the sprint earlier at the Beijing Olympics.

Finland’s Kirtu Niskanen also won the bronze in 2 minutes 33.3 seconds.

Strong winds whipped up blizzards across the icy tracks as the women skated four laps on the 7.5-kilometre (4.6-mile) track with amateur hats and duct tape on their faces and extra layers under their racing suits.

Francesco Friedrich finished off an unforgettable display by slipping at the Beijing Olympics.

Friedrich won his second Olympic gold medal in Beijing and fourth in his career by winning on Sunday the four-men event, the final race at the Games.

There have been 10 slip events in Beijing.

Germany has won gold in nine of them, taking 16 medals in total.

The rest of the world combined took 14 medals in sliding.

Johannes Lochner also won the silver for Germany on Sunday while Canadian Justin Krebs took the bronze.

Hunter Church ranked 10th for the United States and Frank Del Duca tied for 13th.

Eve Muirhead led Britain to the Olympic gold medal in women’s curling – the first for the home sport since 2002 – with a record 10-3 victory over Japan.

A day after the British men took the silver, having lost to Sweden in the final, the women took two points at the first end and dominated the scoreboard.

Muirhead easily snatched Japan’s lone stone and scored four goals to advance 8-2, bringing the biggest cheers yet from the British fans in the crowd.

This is the second consecutive medal for Japan’s Fujisawa, Shinami Yoshida, Yumi Suzuki and Yorika Yoshida who took the bronze in Pyeongchang. On Saturday evening, the Swedish won the bronze medal by defeating Switzerland.

In the same context, Michaela Shiffrin and the US mixed ski team lost the bronze medal by 0.42 seconds, in the last alpine skiing event at the Beijing Olympics.

The top-ranked Austrians won the gold at the second Winter Games for the mixed-team parallel event, delaying Germany in the final.

The United States primarily used Shiffrin on the slower than parallel tournaments, and lost three of their four qualifiers, including the bronze match against Norway. Teammate River Radamos grabbed the victory the United States needed in the final playoffs to force a 2-2 draw, but he wasn’t quick enough to tilt the tiebreak — combined times for the fastest man and woman — in favor of the Americans.

Austria also drew in the final against the Germans, but Stefan Bernsteiner and Katherina Linsberger jointly fought out their qualifiers faster than Lena Doerr and Alexander Schmid. Astra took the silver in her first appearance at the event in Pyeongchang four years ago.

And two-time gold medalist Shiffrin went 0-5 in her attempt to win an individual medal in Beijing. She only made it to the finish line in two singles events, coming in 9th in the super G and 18th in the downhill.
